Lace and Flowers

Pretty pink flowers adorning an intricately piped chocolate lace design. It fit well with the venue which was decked out in beautiful red and rose hues.

Make It So.

For all the Trekkie fans out there, here's the Star Trek Enterprise ship. This was for a big Star Trek fan's baby shower complete with phasers and a baby! Structurally, this cake was gave me a huge headache trying to support all the weight of the cake on the back end, not to mention trying to fondant all the corners and crevasses. It worked out in the end and she was happy with it so that's what matters.

My Big Big Friend

A cake based on the children's cartoon called, "My Big Big Friend" complete with all the main characters.

Teddy Bears

Cute, girly, pretty, and fun. All the things this cake embodies for a one year old's birthday. "Forever Friends" type teddy bears among dozens of pink-hued flowers.

My Brandy Alexander

Criteria from client: make a cake with brandy in it. The first thing that came to mind when I thought of brandy was a Brandy Alexander.The drink that Feist wrote a song on, the old school drink containing, brandy, creme de cacao, cream, and nutmeg. This cake was my take on it.

Brandy soaked chocolate sponge, a layer of creamy dark chocolate custard, nutmeg spiced caramel gelle, and a brandy alexander flavored mousse. Enrobed in a taupe colored glaze and dusted lightly with cocoa powder and nutmeg to mimic the drink and surrounded with a spiced chocolate soil to give it some good texture.

Matcha and Azuki

This matcha azuki cake was made for a friend's mother's birthday. An almond joconde band surrounding matcha white chocolate mousse. Inside was a light matcha chiffon and cooked azuki beans. A thin layer of gelle on top before the cascade of chocolate curls and ribbons and cubes of yokan (a firm jelly made with agar) made from azuki bean paste and matcha. I love the color contrast and the different textures and heights make it really interesting.

Sonic the Hedgehog Cake

Here's a scene from the Sonic the Hedgehog video game. Tons of gold rings spinning around the striped grass with it's signature checkered backdrop. The client had small Sonic figurines and this was the perfect platform for it.

Suitcases

 

These two cakes were for a client that had traveled the world and loved all the memories that came with it. I thought these antique "suitcase" cakes would work really well  with travel stickers of all the places she's been to. As you can see, it's a lot of stickers but it definitely made the cakes stand out against the antique brown.

A Big Favor

This was an order from a friend who's sister was getting married the next day. I got the call at 2pm and made it as a huge favor to her. On a tight budget as well, I put this together that night and have to say that I quite like it. Simple but still very romantic. Lucky for her she called on my day off!

Mango Fruit Mousse Garden

A very large mango mousse cake. Mangoes aren't really in season right now so I bumped it up with some dragonfruit and berries for some nice balance and visual contrast. I call it a garden because the decor seems to flow very naturally and it looks as if it's "growing" with the chocolate sticking out and the fruit popping.
